Consignment: Vintage vs. Contemporary

So many people are shopping second hand these days. Between the thrill of valuable thrifted finds and the great deals on high-end brands, there are endless reasons to give up regular retail.

But, I’ve noticed more specifically that there are two categories most consignment shoppers fall into. Some prefer vintage, while others love contemporary.

The contemporary consignment shoppers are in it for the deals. Designer bags are their religion. Louboutins are the only thing on their Christmas list. These people love luxe but don’t want to pay full price. But who does? They love finding amazing prices on something that’s only a season old. These women are the smartest shoppers around, especially when it comes to finding high end for low prices.

The other group does it for the value. I fall into this category. Nothing is more valuable to me than a vintage piece with a story behind it. I’ve got an entire collection of bags, jewelry, and clothing from the 1940s alone. While I completely appreciate current designers, and love buying some contemporary pieces, I’d rather wear something vintage.

I think it also has to do with personal style. Some people love the retro look. It’s a unique way of expressing yourself. Personally, I love looking like I stepped straight out of a black and white silent film. On the other hand, many people would rather be decked out in all of their favorite designers at once! They can afford it too, because of the great prices consignment offers.

Crave loves and caters to both types of shoppers. Which type are you?
